Announcing

The Second Annual California McNair Symposium - Online

The Ronald E. McNair Post- Baccalaureate Achievement Program is a federally
funded program to promote doctoral study by members of economically
disadvantaged and
historically underrepresented groups. Every year, each of the almost 70
McNair Scholars Programs select approximately 20 undergraduate students to
work with faculty in preparation for application to Graduate/Doctoral
programs.

This summer the Berkeley campus is hosting the Second Annual California
McNair Symposium -- a national conference for these students to present the
results of their summer research with a faculty mentor. The Sympoiusm will
feature the research of over 100 students from more than fifteen
Universities across the nation (e.g. Penn State, UC Irvine, University of
Illinois).

In order to provide the broadest possible exposure to McNair Scholars'
research, we will be transmitting video of many of the presentations at the
Second Annual California McNair Symposium over the Internet using the
videoconferencing software application CUSeeMe.

Student presentation sessions from the Conference will be broadcast from
9AM - 4:30 PM Pacific Time on Tuesday, August 9 and Wednesday, August 10.

The IP address for the conference reflector is "128.32.163.118". The
conference number is 0. Note: please do not send video back to this
conference -- it will overwhelm our reflectors and cause the broadcast to
end abruptly.

Students and faculty worldwide are invited to participate in this broadcast,
and Scholars presenting at the Symposium are encouraged to refer faculty
members to their on-line presentations. A complete schedule of Students
presenting at the Symposium, with a separate list of those whose
presentations will be broadcast with CU-SeeMe, are available on the UC Berkeley
McNair World Wide Web server "http://128.32.252.18".

Note: The Berkeley McNair WWW server can be accessed by any Macintosh or PC
computer connected to the Internet using the publicly available software
"Mosaic." The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the Berkeley McNair WWW
server is "http://128.32.252.18"

Mosaic (and other World Wide Web "clients" are available via Gopher, Fetch
or ftp from "sunsite.unc.edu"

The UC Berkeley McNair Scholars Program is funded by the US Department of
Education Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program and is
sponsored on the Berkeley campus by the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of
Student Life, Francisco J. Hernandez, Ph.D.

Video equipment has been graciously loaned by the UC Berkeley Graduate
School of Education, CUSeeMe reflectors are courtesy of ICCS at UC
Berkeley.
