Non-Real Time Audio

One for the wish list: provide an option for a "buffered" mode of
operation for audio. This would provide high quality audio by
allowing audio data to accumulate in a local buffer (or on disk)
before being listened to. It would compromise the real time aspect of
the data, but users having trouble getting good audio in real time
might not mind the trade-off. What do you think?
