windows audio... heres what mine does...

I am running a pentium-90, windows3.11, sb16, videologic captivator, with
the latest version of cu-seeme.

Like most people, the audio that I am able to receive, is fleeting, and
intermittent, at best. Maybe a quarter second of intelligible signal,
interspersed with lots of clicking and popping.

Here is what I have noticed: When I click on the "push to transmit" button,
the red level indicator is already jumping up and down, before I begin to
talk into my microphone.
When I go into my recording utility, and record using the same
microphone, everything works well... so its unlikely that this is a loose
connection, failing microphone, or inadequately shielded wire causing the
problem.

I have the feeling that this is a big problem, and might have an easy fix.

Any suggestions? Ideas? Waddaya think?
