Announcements of new lists
--------------------------
Due to the overwhelming positive response to the poll concerning the
formation of new (unofficial) discussion lists for CU-SeeMe we hereby
announce the creation of:

CUSM-EVENTS CU-SeeMe events list
CUSM-REFLECTOR CU-SeeMe reflector operations list

Both lists will be considered "unofficial" since no one from the Cornell
University development team responded to requests for their opinion
concerning the new lists or to the poll.

CUSM-EVENTS List
-----------------
The purpose of the CU-SeeMe Events mailing list is to provide announcements
and discussion of broadcasts and events over the Internet which use Cornell
University's CU-SeeMe desktop videoconferencing software. The goal of this
list is to provide information concerning public broadcasts in which
CU-SeeMe users may wish to participate or view (lurk). It is NOT for the
discussion of hardware or software problems; problems and technical
questions aret to be sent to the CU-SeeMe discussion list run by the
CU-SeeMe team.

CUSM-REFLECTOR List
------------------------
The purpose of the CU-SeeMe Reflector Operator's mailing list is to
coordinate reflectors for public broadcasts and events over the Internet
which use Cornell University's CU-SeeMe desktop videoconferencing software.
The goal of this list is to coordinate activities of reflector operators
for the broadcast of public events and to provide a forum for information
exchange and assistance between reflector operators (and possibly prevent
future Stone's fiascos). The information exchanged on this mailing list is
geared to reflector operators rather than the CU-SeeMe end-user. It is not
for the general discussion of events (it will discuss the logistics of the
events are important to only the reflector operators). It is not for the
discussion of hardware or software problems; problems and technical
questions should be sent to the CU-SeeMe discussion list run by the
CU-SeeMe team.

Daily digest are available
--------------------------
Instead of getting the numerous messages that'll traverse these lists, you
may subscribe to the daily digest versions of these lists. Subscribe to
the list OR the digest; both lists will receive the same mail (regular list
is mailed each message as it is received by the list while the digest
collects all messages for 1 mailing during a 24 hour period).

Additional information
----------------------
Messages to these lists will be archived and available for reading and
searching on a Web site within a week of this message. The Web site is
still under construction by Michael Sattler <msattler@jungle.com> and
myself. The Web site will include searchable List archives (using the
HyperMail application) of the CU-SeeMe discussion list, CUSM-EVENTS discussion
list, and CUSM-REFLECTOR discussion list. The CU-SeeMe discussion list archive
will only cover from July 22, 1994 to present unless we can find someone who
has archived prior messages. Hypermail will allow for easy access to the
archives from Mosaic, Netscape or other web browser; the format is similar
to that which a threaded newsreader would provide from a newsgroup.

The site will also include a Calendar of Events, FAQs, lists of public
reflector sites, and as much information concerning hardware and CU-SeeMe
in general as we can write and assemble. All contributions are welcome.

Within a few days we will announce the URL for the web site. We want to
finish a little more construction on the site before it is officially
opened.
