I'd like to know the answer to this as well...I have a friend who has the
Quickcam BC as well...when she tried to use the B&W mode in CU 2.1.2, she
got an error "Can't capture in 4 or 8-bit mode" or something like that.
The solution was to send in color. She upgraded (or downgraded depending
on your viewpoint) to Enhanced CU 3.1 preview 21...and was able to send in
B&W. Maybe have something to do with ActiveX? I don't know...I find it
hard to believe Connectix no longer supports the grayscale modes of the
past. Perhaps they don't though..and Connectix needs to be reminded that
people DO need grayscale support.

It reminds me of when the Color Quickcam for the PC came out...It lacked
support for 8-bit color and ANY grayscale formats.
