Sound with CU-SeeME

Quick question... the sound card I'm using with my PC is one of these
cheap & nasty SB16 clones and the recording sound level is practically
non-existant. Is there any equally cheap & nasty way to get CU-SeeMe
to pretend that the sound levels are better than they are?
