PC w. ProMovieSpectrum board

We've had the same results as Chris Hand with Media Vision's
ProMovie Spectrum board...image looks like reverse-video with
very little contrast, i.e., very, very poor! Yet when we run
Video for Windows directly we get a very acceptable image!
What is CU-SEEME doing that causes the difference?
