problems with usr sportster 28.8 and cusm

I always seem to get dropped intermittently on cusm. It does not seem to
happen when I'm connect just to the web or my email.

I recently upgraded from a generic 14.4 modem and had no problems with
dropping from cusm when on it. Since I have changed however, the
problem has been persistent.

I use a 486/66, windows for workgroup 3.11 system. I'm using Cornell
v.0847.

Is the a bug in the software? Or, is there a general problem with the
modem that I need to change some of the initialization settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
