Helpful information using CU-SeeMe list

CU-SeeMe-L List Information

For anyone interested in following developments in CU-SeeMe, or in
contacting other CU-SeeMe users, an automated maillist has been
established. The list is provided for unrestricted discussion of the
CU-SeeMe packet video software.

There are now 1700 subscribers to the CU-SeeMe-L listserv (give or take a
few). We receive roughly 400 error messages a day. PLEASE PRINT THIS set of
instructions and KEEP IT handy!

Management of this list is handled by Craig Kaplan at CPK4@Cornell.edu, so
any requests can be directed to him.

Note: anywhere in the instructions below LISTPROC@cornell.edu and
LISTSERV@cornell.edu are interchangeable. Use either address.

IA. How to SUBSCRIBE to the CU-SeeMe-L list:

1. Address a message to LISTPROC@CORNELL.EDU
2. Leave the SUBJECT line blank!
3. In the body of your message, type: SUBSCRIBE
CU-SEEME-L (first name) (last name)
(be sure to substitute your actual name)
4. Send your message.
5. You will receive a confirmation mail file with important
information. Save this mail file for future reference!!!

IB. How to SEND a Message to the CU-SeeMe-L list to be
received by 1700 subscribers:

1. Address your message to CU-SeeMe-L@cornell.edu
2. Make up any subject title you wish.
3. Type your message
4. Send your message

II. How to UNSUBSCRIBE:

1. Find out the EXACT address you originally subscribed (to
this list) under (if you don't know, go to III. below
and follow those instructions).

Make sure this original address is typed in the FROM:

field
2. Address a message to: LISTPROC@CORNELL.EDU
3. (Leave the SUBJECT line BLANK!!!)
4. In the body of the message, type ONLY:
UNSUB CU-SeeMe-L (or SIGNOFF CU-SeeMe-L)
5. Send your message

III. How to find out the Address You ORIGINALLY SUBSCRIBED under:

***Note: you will receive 4 or 5 mail files listing every single
subscriber by the name and email address they subscribed under. They are
NOT in alphabetical order - you may want to search for your name using an
Editor (even MSWORD).

1. Address a message to LISTPROC@CORNELL.EDU
2. (Leave the SUBJECT line BLANK!!!)
3. In the body of the message, type: REVIEW CU-SEEME-L
4. Send your message. Await a reply.

IV. How to switch to the ANNOUNCE
(CU-SEEME-ANNOUNCE-L) list:

....and why would you want to? If you feel inundated in CU-SeeMe-L mail,
you may want to consider joining the ANNOUNCE list, thereby receiving
***only**** announcements from CU's CU-SeeMe developers.

1. Address a message to LISTPROC@cornell.edu
2. (Leave the SUBJECT line BLANK!!!)
3. In the body of the message, type the following two lines:
UNSUB CU-SEEME-L <Your Name> SUBSCRIBE CU-SEEME-L <Your Name>
4. (make sure that you put YOUR OWN first name and last
name in the appropriate spots. Do not put in the < >.

5. Send your message.

V. How to SWITCH to the DIGEST format (consolidates the messages you
get
each day from the list:

1. Address a message to LISTPROC@cornell.edu
2. In the FROM: field, type in the address you originally

subscribed under.
3. (Leave the SUBJECT line BLANK!!!)
4. Type the following in the body of the mail message:
Set CU-SeeMe-L MAIL DIGEST
5. Send your message

**Note: the switch to DIGEST is only possible if you send your request
from the address you originally subscribed from. See III. above to find out
what your address is.

VI. How to POSTPONE receipt of messages from
CU-SeeMe-L

1. Address a message to LISTPROC@cornell.edu
2. (Leave the SUBJECT line BLANK!!!)
4. Type the following in the body of the mail message:
Set CU-SeeMe-L MAIL POSTPONE
5. Send your message

VII. How to turn off the POSTPONE command and get your mail gain:

1. Address a message to LISTPROC@cornell.edu
2. (Leave the SUBJECT line BLANK!!!)
3. Type one of the following in the body of the mail

message: Set CU-SeeMe-L MAIL NOACK
(which means "don't send me my own postings back")
OR
Set CU-SeeMe-L MAIL ACK (which means "send me my own postings
back")
OR
SET CU-SEEME-L Mail DIGEST

4. Send your message

VIII. REPLY to messages with caution!

to see what Mail address is showing in the TO: field. Are you sending
personal reply accidentally to the entire list?
