Help with Enhanced CU-SeeMe and Mac

I have tried to complete a project with a school in California and a
school in Illinois using the Mac Beta of Enhanced CU-SeeMe. We all
have a dial-up PPP connection and 28.8 modem or higher. With the
Califonia group, we sort of saw each other and had one or two
experiences of crackling sound. With Illinois, we had a great picture
and no sound. We "talked" using chat. In both cases, we were
connecting about 2 PM EST.
Can you offer any advice as to why we couldn't get sound to work? Our
intention was to celebrate Cinco de Mayo using CU-SeeMe with a program
we developed at each location. Audio was critical to our project. Our
bottom line was to connect children who are learning Spanish with
others who already speak or are learning Spanish to provide practice
speaking skills.
I have read every FAQ I can find. Essentially, I believe based on
my reading, that given our circumstances, we should be able to both see and
talk. I will appreciate any help given.
