I had the "error=-227" on my quadra 840AV, although I don't have a
Geoport/Express Modem. The problem was finally fixed by reducing the sample
rate in the 'Sound Out' of the 'Sound'-Controlpanel.

Hope this will help others who are facing similar problems.
