It's like a phone conversation, but it's not like a point to point connection...
Being on a public ref is like being on a party line only worse because anyone,
anywhere, anytime can log on and check it out...as such, your sense of privacy is and
should be inherently diminished. If you want to have a private conversation, then don't
use a ref, connect one to one, or use a ref with a conference ID...

Furthermore, to deny the recording of any computer mediated communication is to deny
one of the inherent qualities of the computer : memory and replicability.
