ISDN & sound, and a suggestion

I'm still perplexed: I'm running CUSM0.70b12 on a PowerMac6100/80 AV,
Connecting to PSI at 64K dial-up ISDN using QuickAccess Remote modem.
Even when I have only one CUSM window open, receive only, I still get garbled
or broken-up sound. If I connect to NASA-Select, I hear an *almost*
continuous stream of chopped-up syllables. I've had some success using Maven
only (the sound is clear), though recently I haven't been able to hear NASA
at all.
Also, I thought the serial port speed of my PowerMac was 115K, though the
highest value I can choose in MacPPP is 57K.
If this is as good as it gets, I have a suggestion: It would be *wonderful*
to have the option of prioritizing the sound over the video, like a button to
pause the incoming video, and just listen.
Also, I read sometime ago that the developers were working to "optimize" CUSM
for use at 64K. Is that true, and what does that consist of?
THANKS for your response!
