PB5300cs, CUSEEME, interslip and system pauses

The SLIP service seems to work well with all my TCP apps except for
CUSEEME. For lack of a better phrase, the mac seems to "Pause" alot of the
time when it's running meaning that nothing can be clicked, no drop down
menus, no task switches, etc. Then, suddenly I get a flood of activity
from the modem and thing bounce along very nicely for a while (about 3
minutes) then I get another "pause." It renders the software unusable. I'm
running system 7.5.2 with MACtcp 2.0.6 interslip 1.0.1 on a 8/500 PB
5300cs (100 Mhz ppc). When I connect via localtalk to the net on a T1 line
all is fine so I sure the machine itself has the horsepower to do cuseeme,
but it seems to be very hamstringed over the modem. I know lots of ppl who
do cuseeme over 14.4 and 28.8 modems on macs, and it's fine. Any
suggestions ? I've tapped out all my knowledge. The interslip connection
itself is working fine with all the apps I've tried save for cuseeme and
videophone.

Thanks in advance oh TCP mavins.
