CNIDR seeks sites interested in chaining their reflector off of
ours for receive-only for the U.S. Dept. of Education monthly
town meeting videoconferences. The Dept. of Education is
interested in spreading broadcast of the meeting as widely as
possible. If you are interested, please contact Jane Smith
( or George Brett (
with your reflector ip number so we can add you to the chain. We
can accommodate 4 reflectors, but you are encouraged to have
other reflectors chain off of your reflector to reach the widest
possible audience. We'd like to get the reflectors in place by
Friday, October 14, so we can include those sites in a formal
announcement of the conference.

The U.S. Department of Education holds monthly "town meetings"
via satellite broadcast videoconferences. Last month CNIDR
captured the satellite broadcast and redirected it live via our
CU-SeeMe reflector. We recorded the session and will rebroadcast
it via CU-SeeMe just prior to the next town meeting.

The next meeting, "GOALS 2000 SATELLITE TOWN MEETING: Learning
On-line: Education and the Information Superhighway" will be held
Tuesday, October 18th from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The videoconference will feature U.S. Education Secretary Richard
Riley, Deputy Secretary Madeleine Kunin, Special Advisor on
Educational Technology Linda Roberts, Tom Grundner, President of
the National Public Telecomputing Network in Cleveland, Ohio;
Louis Gomez, Associate Professor at Northwestern University in
Evanston, Illinois; and Carol Hyatt, Chair of the Parents
Committee of the Consortium for School Networking in Rockville,

A formal announcement of the meeting will follow in a couple of
