Yep. DNS didn't seem particularly important as long as there was an
ability to assign nicknames to IP's. And, the nickname feature was
essential since many desktop machines aren't registered for DNS. However,
as it becomes increasingly common to e.g., advertise reflector addresses,
it's clear that DNS would be useful. It's on the list of things to add.
