Audio problem

When I press to talk the meter registers whether or not I'm talking, or
even whether or not the mike is plugged in. It also tends to refuse to
turn off, forcing a reboot.

I've tried different settings on my mixer (Gravis Ultra Max) and
different SLIP connections (both 28.8 and 14.4). I don't expect to
broadcast necessarily at those speeds, BUT I also don't expect the
program to register sounds apart from mike sounds.

Anyone else with this problem or with a solution to it?
