Try connecting to

kingfisher.cms.shu.ac.uk

which will reflect your own transmissions back to you
and show you in the participants window even if you are lurking.
Most reflectors are configured not to 'self-reflect' in this
way so that bandwidth isn't used up unnecessarily.
Besides, you can tell when you are connected from
the cusm window.
