Continuous Improvement Process

Performance Accreditation

 

In the continuous improvement process student performance goals must focus on improved student learning.

Once a school declares its intent to pursue a continuous improvement protocol, the school implements the following:
Phase I

Making or Renewing the
Commitment












     
Phase II 

Getting Started
Narrative Description of School, Community, Education Programs
1.  Unique Local Characteristics
2.  Follow-up of Promoted or Graduated Students
3.  Student Instructional Data:  attendance rates, graduation rates, test scores (graphs of data from the annual performance report), climate issues, Indiana standards, etc.
4.  Teacher Instructional Data
5.  Community
Summarize data (drawing conclusions, identifying implications and tasks).  Set stage for development of mission and selection of goals.
Phase III 

Collecting and Analyzing Data
Phase IV 

Develop Mission / Belief Statements and Selecting Appropriate Goals
      Beginning January 2002, the goals must be approved by the NCA CASI Indiana Office by January 1.



Preliminary Chair Contact/Visit
Phase V 

Developing the School
Improvement Plan

(including
Strategies / Interventions,
Professional Development,
and Assessment Tools)
Use conclusions (goals) drawn from the data as the basis of the plan.
For each goal, define interventions (curriculum and alignment of standards, use of technology, parental involvement, safe environment, multiple assessments, and professional development).
Complete Capacity Assessment Instrument.
   
Peer Review Team Visit:
Plan Validation
  Peer Review Team for those schools in the self-study:  2001-2002 (Visit is November to February, 2002), 2002-2003 (Visit is August to November, 2003).
Phase VI 

Implementing the School Improvement Plan
Each year review results and report, revise interventions, professional development if learning impact not strong.
Measure results for NCA CASI in terms of standard units (use Data Analysis software).
   
Phase VII

Monitoring the Implementation of the School Improvement and Documenting Student Progress
Prepare documentation (for each goal and each assessment tool) for second NCA CASI peer review visit.  Second measure for Capacity Assessment Instrument.
   
Phase VIII
Continuing the Process
