Steps Toward Membership
A school seeking membership in NCA CASI shall
follow these steps:
- Determine the desirability of membership through discussion
with the faculty, the principal, the superintendent, and the governing board.
- Contact the NCA CASI office for further help and information.
- Study the
standards under which the school is seeking
accreditation. Consider the implications for the school and note and project a plan to
correct any deficiencies the school may have in relation to the standards.
- Make formal application for membership, with written approval
of the governing board.
- File the appropriate NCA CASI annual
report and required materials and documentation with the state office.
The annual report is the means by which the state office verifies the school's compliance
with NCA CASI standards.
- The state office will review the school's annual report and
notify the school if additional information is required.
- If it appears that the school meets the intent of NCA CASI
standards, an audit visit will be scheduled. During the audit visit a representative of
the State Office will visit the school to validate the information provided in the
annual report.
- Once it has been determined that the school meets NCA CASI
standards (or has projected an acceptable plan for meeting the standards or their intent)
and that the state office will recommend initial membership and accreditation to the State
Committee, planning for the school improvement process should be undertaken.
- Contact the state office for initiation of the school
improvement process (planning, self-study, team visit, and school improvement plan.) A
comprehensive process must have been conducted within two years of initial membership.
- Be recommended by the State Committee for accreditation and
membership in NCA CASI and undergo a review by a Central Reviewing Committee at the Annual
Meeting.
- Be voted into membership by the Commission at the Annual
Meeting.
- Remit membership dues to the Commission.
- Undergo a site visit by a team of representatives from outside
the school district. The visiting team will submit a written report of its findings to the
school and to the State Committee.
