African American Cultural Center

The African-American Cultural Center is responsible for developing and providing opportunities for African-American students to involve themselves in creating, innovating, designating, and deciding cultural programs relevant to them.

It is further responsible for promoting positive identification, association, and relationship to African-American historical and contemporary culture.

The African-American Cultural Center creates a learning environment conducive for students, administrators, faculty members, and citizens of the Terre Haute community to understand, recognize, and appreciate the contributions made by African-American people.

The African-American Cultural Center coordinates efforts with existing programs and departments; it provides an atmosphere conducive for relevant psychological and social needs of African-American students; it provides educational experiences in the areas of African-American history and culture, problems of African-American development, and general issues of race relations; it provides the opportunities for the development of decision-making ability and potential talents of students who have been neglected. It provides direct services to personal and groups with the goal to make society aware of the need for racial justice.

The African-American Cultural Center offers a place for African-American students, faculty and staff to gather in an environment relevant to the African-American experience and to African-American culture in general. The African-American Cultural Center is a focal point for the collection and exhibition of African-American cultural artifacts and the dissemination of information concerning the culture of African-American people.
