Site address: http://www.census.gov/datamap/www/index/html
Theme: census data by states
Grade Level: 6
Annotation of Site:
Students will be able to compare, analyze and hypothesize about
the populations of the different states via up-to-date Census Bureau statistics.
Varied statistics relate to business ownership, labor, education, health,
age, death rate, birth rate, income, expenditures, home ownership, automobiles,
and other comparable data are available by county. Small group work regarding
local, state, regional, and national comparisons may be made relative to
climate, proximity to neighboring countries and oceans, historic cultural
immigration, economic opportunities, and health. The site is an interesting
location for students to develop questions, and answers, to the many reasons
for U.S. immigration and the many current complex issues regarding future
immigration laws.
