The Yucatan Peninsula and the Maya World is an Advanced Institute of the Geography Educators' Network of Indiana. Participation is generally limited to elementary and secondary Indiana teachers who teach geography as part of their teaching responsibilities. Those wishing to participate must complete an application form. Teachers who are accepted will receive funding for trip costs bringing their out of pocket costs to less that $1000 for three weeks including food. To receive this funding teachers must complete a K-12 lesson packet on some aspect of the geography of southern Mexico.
The selection committee will be looking to build a group with a range of experience, but applications are welcome from innovative, leader teachers who have no travel experience outside the United States. The application form also contains a means of initial self selection reviewing conditions and expectations of participants.
