Overview
Over the last
two years the NSF sponsored project: Advancing Geo-Technology Education:
Providing GIS Skills for the Workforce of the Twenty-First Century,
conducted two summer institutes on geographic information systems for community
college faculty. To satisfy many requests we have organized a two week
intensive remote sensing course designed for community college faculty.
This course is open to all community college faculty with no preference
to participants of the GIS institutes. The costs for the course are for
three credits graduate tuition (Geo 507) and a book and supply fee of $150
that also serves as a registration fee to reserve a seat in the course.
(We will see if we can arrange for in-state tuition for all that enroll,
but there are not guarantees of this at this date) If you would like to
stay on campus the cost is $118 for a room and the meal plan is $139.50
for the full two weeks. Lodging is in a dorm setting in suits of four small
individual rooms with a small living room common area. Food through the
meal service is actually pretty good.
The course
will focus upon the fundamentals of remote sensing and computer analysis
of digital satellite imagery. We will use an outstanding piece of remote
sensing software called MultiSpec that you will be able to take back with
you and set up in your lab. If you have been planning to add a remote sensing
component to one of your courses the two weeks will provide a wonderful
opportunity to develop this component. The course will be taught by Dr.
Paul W. Mausel who has been with the Department of Geography, Geology and
Anthropology for 24 years and is nationally and internationally recognized
for his research in remote sensing.
Course:
Geo 507 (Three graduate credits)
