CD
Features: Remote Sensing
Introduction
This
CD-ROM features remote sensing applied to wetland restoration. In this
CD, wetland issues and concepts are presented and discussed in detail along
with
a thorough discussion on remote sensing technology and its use. A final
project concludes this CD in which remote sensing is used to locate potential
sites
for wetland restoration. The project is conducted using a simulated version
of Erdas Imagine.
Activities
There
are fourteen hands-on activities in the CD Activities range from virtual
trip to wetland sites to drag and drop exercises on the most important
topics related to remote sensing principles. Most activities produce scores
that are recorded in the database. The elapsed time in each activity
is also recorded in the database for each student.
Quizzes
The
quiz questions are either true false, or multiple choice. Each quiz
is comprised of four or five questions for each section. The students
are given immediate feed back on the correctness of their answers. At the
end of the quiz they are given their score for that quiz.
Student
Notes
One
of the exciting features of the CD is the ability for students to take
on screen notes. This feature
will help the student learn the importance of note taking and will increase
the ability to take notes in class. The students will have the ability
to read their notes before taking each quiz or doing each activity.
Student Login
Here we see the logon screen
for the students. Each student is supplied with a user name, and password.
The user name and password
are assigned by the
teacher and should unique
to each student. It is important that the student know that correct typing
of their username and password is essential to ensure correct scoring of
the work.
Menu Structure
The CD is organized by menus.
Here you see an example of some of the menus in the program. This
is not a complete listing of what is presented on the CD but
a representation of what the students will see. As the students work through
the program day by day their data file is continually updated and when
they logon on
proceeding days they are
taken back to where they last left off.
Navigation Buttons
Here you have an example
of one of the pages in introduction to remote sensing. The student can
read the text in the text window by using the scroll bar while
listening to the audio.
On each page, the students have a choice of going back to the previous
page of this section,
going to the index page, restarting this section,
going back to the menu,
going to the next page of this section or taking notes on this page which
is a very useful feature of the CD.
Index
The students can go to this
index page at anytime they are running the program. Here they have the
choice of returning back to sections they have already covered to review,
or return to the section they are presently covering.
The items in red are those sections that the student has already covered.
The areas in gray are those areas that have not yet been covered.
They can also see their average score at to this point. They can also see
their average score up to this point.
